Pokemon Soul Silver Review

I know it's a bit past the release date, but I have been asked to make a review of Pokemon Soul Silver, the modern-day DS remake of the classic GB Pokemon Silver. The alternate game is Heart Gold- a remake of Pokemon Gold.

So first, I unbox the game and inside the box is:

  • Game Cartridge
  • Instruction Manuals
  • PokeWalker
Now, the PokeWalker is a pedometer in the shape of a PokeBall which you put a Pokemon inside (once captured in game) and you take it to different "paths" (paths are just areas you find different Pokemon in) and go on a walk. Each time you go for a walk you will be gathering steps and watts (if you are walking properly) and you can either keep these and put them back on the game when the walk is over (to unlock new paths) or spend them on the PokeWalker. On the PokeWalker you can either:
  • Use the PokeRadar - go Pokemon Catching (10W)
  • Go dowsing - Item finding (3W)
  • View your trainer card - Trainer, route you are on and walking status.
  • Pokemon & Items - Shows the Pokemon on the PokeWalker and the items you've gathered.
  • Send the Pokemon back to the DS

So anyway, the game starts and everything is explained well. You play as a boy or a girl, your name, who everyone is, how everything is used and so on. You get to pick your starter Pokemon from Professor Elm- your towns PokeProf. The choices of starters are:
  • Chikorita (Grass)
  • Cyndaquil (Fire)
  • Totodile (Water)
In the game your goal is to beat the Pokemon League- a build-up of Pokemon Gyms and the Elite 4, fill up your Pokedex (by catching every Pokemon) and to get a perfect team with the strongest Poke going.

The gameplay is fun, but repetitive and the graphics are much better than that of the previous DS Pokemon games, but when entering some places, an annoying Eyecatch shows.

The game also features an Olympic type minigame, featuring mini minigame courses in which you can win prizes.

Overall, the game is a fine work of Nintendo gaming- but the constant battling gets repetitive (and darn right annoying) after a while. Considering all the factors this game has I will be giving it a:

93%

+ Good graphics
+ Well recreation of the classic games
+ New features are good
- Gameplay gets repetitive after a while
